Getting Pikachu at the start

It seems everyone wants Pikachu at the start, which is understandable it is the classic pokemon the one we all know.  There is actually a simple way to get him at the start.  When you first start the game you get offered three pokemon, ignore them, walk away.  In fact you may have to just keep walking away everytime they appear and eventually you will get offered pikachu.  Sometimes Pikachu appears quickly overtimes you may have to walk away a few times, but it works.
